Using an online questionnaire that we issue after every activity or equipment hire booking, we ask our customers if they feel that we care for the environment in which we operate.  We use this feedback to gauge if we're doing enough to make our customers aware of the things we are trying to do to minimise the impact on the environment.

Based on feedback we've received in 2010, 88% of our customers think we do care for the environment in which we operate, but 12% stated that they weren't sure.

This suggests to us that although we're doing pretty well there continues to be room for improvement particularly amongst our equipment hire customers. 

What are we doing about this? 

* We already provide canoe and sea kayak hire customers with information about responsible access while using our equipment on Highland lochs, rivers or canals. 

* When our instructors are leading groups, whether on an expedition or day activity, they will always have the Leave No Trace principles at the back of their mind and where appropriate will ensure that customers also follow these guidelines while participating, e.g. minimum impact campfires, removing litter/ rubbish (even if it's not their own!).

* We offer canoe and kayak hire clients fire pans (to prevent damage to the ground) and toilet kits free of charge.

* We are going to start providing some information about the Leave No Trace principles to equipment hire customers so that we can do our utmost to promote responsible access.

* We are using our website to promote what we are doing, and in turn raise awareness of the things that can make a difference while using the outdoors for leisure activities.

* We'll continue to monitor customer awareness and take on board the suggestions we receive where at all practical.
